These delivery robots may become the future at schools all over the country but for now, it is the reality for students at the University of Mississippi.

Starship Technologies has created a robot that allows students to order food at the click of a button from their mobile device. With the Starship Deliveries app, students are able to pick from up to 12 restaurants to order food from. This will allow students to study anywhere on campus and order food without having to worry about leaving to go get it. At pickup, the app gives the student a code they must enter in to get their food.

While the delivery is made by a robot, there are real people working behind the scenes to ensure that everything runs smoothly. The robot is equip with cameras on the front and back to help with motion detecting and allows people to control the robot if needed.

On the discussion of safety, Starships website states, “Starship’s robots move at pedestrian speed and weigh no more than 100 pounds. They’re inherently safe and can navigate around objects and people”.
